For college coaches, recruiting can be a stressful process. They spend hours each day poring over high school results and talking up potential recruits over the phone. Yet, every once in awhile, the hard work reaps huge rewards: a star freshman arrives and contributes immediately to the team’s success. Georgetown looks to Freshmen for Success this Season- Article on www.reachforthewall.com, swimming publication for the Washington Post

The Georgetown swimming and diving team is dreaming big this season. Lopez-Cantera was a member of the men’s 3×100 butterfly relay team that won at the Potomac Relays. Waller also mentioned freshman Samantha Kietlinski as a go-to option for the team.

“She’s very versatile in that we can put her in almost anything and she’ll win for us,” Waller said.

Eastern Express “Beats the Clock” at Oktoberfest – update from Coach Mike Randazzo

At a meet that arrived before we all turn back our clocks and begin driving to and from practice in the dark, Express swimmers turned back time as most athletes who competed in the weekend competition at Oktoberfest ’09 posted at least four lifetime bests. In fact, a remarkable ten individuals dropped time in all six events: Alan Gao, Sarah Gulbranson, Ethan Hatke, Cassie Hubert, Monica Khare, Hailey Kenyon, Gwyneth Lavery, Scott Mackenzie, Jack McIntyre and Teddy Slahetka.

Nine athletes made their debuts in at least one event: Micah Bergstrom (100 Back), Tess Bodden (100 Fly), Sarah Gulbranson (50,100 Free, 50 Back, 50 Breast, & 50 Fly), Ethan Hatke (100 Fly), Sunna Juhn (100 Back), Patrick Lavery (100 Fly), Shreya Rane (100 Fly), Morgan Sattler (100 Fly), Teddy Slahetka (100 Breast). Congratulations also to new Junior Olympic qualifiers Alan Gao (11-12 50 Breast,) Gwyneth Lavery (10&U 50 Breast) and Jack McIntyre (11-12 100 Free).

Express will be in action again on 10/25 at the SHY Fall Challenge Invitational. Pictures of those who spent their weekend at GCIT are posted below –I’m the one in the middle with the facial hair, although it’s not nearly as noticeable as it was last season.
